Mapping lac- mutations by conjugation

Here are the genetic markers that we will be using in our studies.

We know from past studies that these gene fall on the genomic map in the following order:

Combining Data

We have only a limited time for our experiments, so your own experiments are unlikely to provide a complete picture of the genes involved in the utilization of lactose by E. coli.

However, scientists rarely work alone. They write up and publish their observations and hypothesis for others to work with, add to, and refine.

You have access to all of the data produced by your virtual classmates.

Using the accumulated data of many students, we can increase the resolution of our analysis.

Synthesizing your data

Can you write up short paper, based on the data you have accumulated, how the cell uses lactose, and why the various types of mutations map where they do?
